"With You All The Way" by New Edition
It was a clear, brisk night in San Francisco. I decided to bring Gwen somewhere special
that will show her how beautiful San Francisco was. The drive up to Twin Peaks is a long and winding
road. As my car slowly crept up the
hill, making left and right turns through each curve, I became excited to show
her one of my favorite spots in the city.
As we inched closer and closer to the top, San Francisco's lights
revealed itself, like slowly unwrapping a present Christmas morning. When we finally reached the peak, my car
finally came to a rest at the perfect spot, with the perfect view.
With my sweater
on and her North Face jacket keeping her warm, we decided to step out of the
car. Her eyes lit up as she saw the
panoramic view of not just San Francisco but the whole bay area. The moon light glistened on the bay as if
there was another moon shining in the water.
To the left was the Pacific Ocean and next to it was the unmistakable
red/orange Golden Gate Bridge filled with cars going in and out of the city. Coit Tower was in the distance as was the
piers that lined the Embarcadero. Market
Street, with its bright street lights hugging each side, sliced it's way
diagonally from Twin Peaks all the way to the Ferry building. The Bay Bridge was there too with it's
blinking lights on top of the four towers welcoming people into the city. To the east was the east bay, the Berkeley
Hills, and Alameda. We continued to look
south and trace the edge of the peninsula further down to Daly City and beyond.
Her eyes looked
with amazement and wonder. I wrapped my
arms around her to give her that extra warmth that she may need because she
couldn't keep her eyes off at the beautiful view that was presented to her. I distinctly remember Gwen saying that if I
had asked her to be my girlfriend here at this exact same spot, there would
have been no way that she would have been able to turn me down.
We decided to go
back in the car to get a little extra warmth from the heater. As we were talking, I decided to play her a
song from my Ipod. I told her not to say
a word and just listen to the song and the lyrics that I was about to
play. I scrolled through my Ipod and
chose the artist New Edition and the song With You All the Way. I felt that this song was a perfect example
of how I felt about her and us. As the
song began to play, she listened intently on each word that was sung and tears
began rolling from her cheeks. I knew
that these weren't tears of sadness but rather they were tears of pure joy and
happiness. When the song finally ended,
I wiped the tears from her eyes, gave her a big kiss, and hugged her ever so
tight. Without even saying a word, we
both knew that this would be our song. A
song that would symbolize our relationship, a song that says whatever places
love might put us through, remember I'm with you, with you all the way.
